Mehhma Malhi and Xavier Hazard’s 'SCAMMERS' Selected for SBS Digital Originals

Mehhma Malhi and Xavier Hazard’s 'SCAMMERS' Selected for SBS Digital Originals

We are excited to announce that Mehhma Malhi and Xavier Hazard have been selected for the next stage of the Digital Originals initiative. Their project, SCAMMERS, is one of only five from the 2025 cohort chosen to receive development funding from SBS, NITV, and Screen Australia.

Mehhma and Xavier are developing SCAMMERS (alongside Paige Wharehinga), a series that tackles the timely issue of financial fraud with a unique narrative lens:

After retiree Denise Reynolds loses her life savings to a scam caller, she reluctantly teams up with her young aged-care worker Anika Luthra to scam the scammers back. But as Anika and Denise get closer to each other and the truth, they uncover a greater scam much closer to home.

Digital Originals is a leading Australian industry initiative designed to support emerging creatives in developing short-form scripted series. The program provides a structured pathway into the screen industry, offering creators the resources and connections needed to transform original ideas into high-quality productions for SBS On Demand.

Congratulations to Mehhma and Xavier as they move into this next phase of development.
