Xavier Hazard

Writer

Xavier Hazard (he/him) is a queer writer and lawyer with a passion for stories that hit audiences in the gut and the heart and the humerus, all at once. His writing for screen and stage explores the truth in hidden worlds, and often draws on the strange lines between queerness, masculinity, and institutions of power. 

Xavier holds a Master of Fine Arts (Writing) from both NIDA and the Victorian College of the Arts, and is currently working as a writer on on an upcoming Roadshow Rough Diamond project. Since graduating from NIDA in 2024, Xavier has worked as a notetaker across 30 television projects for over 10 production companies. He has also worked as script coordinator for OPTICS, THE TWELVE: CAPE ROCK KILLER, BUMP: A CHRISTMAS FILM, and script editor for THE F WARD season 1. Xavier has participated in ABC/Screen Australia’s FRESH BLOOD initiative alongside comedian Emma Holland, and SBS/Screen Australia’s DIGITAL ORIGINALS with his creative partner Mehhma Malhi for their project SCAMMERS.

Xavier has written and produced six original plays and co-written four others. His most recent play, ALL BOYS played to sold-out seasons in Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne, was published by Playlab Theatre, is on the curriculum at Ivy League Brown University, and was nominated for an AWGIE. 

Xavier’s first original television project, JUDGE, co-created with Mehhma Malhi and based on his time as an associate to a Supreme Court justice, is in development with Louise Smith and Film Depot, supported by Screen Australia and Screen NSW.
