‘ROLEPLAY’ Directed by Paige Rattray Premieres at Edinburgh Fringe Festival
Bold, provocative and darkly funny, ROLEPLAY had it’s UK premiere at Edinburgh Fringe, running from 6 – 31 August. Written and performed by Hannah Reilly, and directed by Paige Rattray.
ROLEPLAY follows a broke feminist podcaster who rebrands as a provocative ‘slutfluencer’ in pursuit of fame, only to lose herself in the performance. Hilarious, gripping and surreal, the show is a razor-sharp interrogation of modern sex, womanhood and the commodification of feminism in the age of the personal brand.
This premiere marks a major collaboration between Francesca Moody Productions (FMP), known for creating and developing Fringe hits that became landmark television series with Fleabag and Baby Reindeer, and Global Creatures.
“Hannah Reilly is a bold and deft performer in a knotty solo show that questions whether sexual empowerment can survive its commodification” – ★★★★ Arifa Akbar, The Guardian
“ROLEPLAY is a slick, sharply funny exploration of sexual empowerment in the digital age” – ★★★★ The Skinny
“Under Paige Rattray’s kinetic direction, the production translates the non-stop grind of social media making onto the stage with palpable energy.” – ★★★★ The Quintessential Review
“Paige Rattray’s production is…full-throttle, there are lots of good one-liners, and Reilly is a charismatic, essentially sympathetic presence.” – Time Out
The one-woman play will also run at the Soho Theatre in London from 22 October - 21 November.
