Maziar Lahooti

Writer Director

Maziar Lahooti is a Perth based Iranian/Norwegian/Australian, writer-director who has received international acclaim and various awards for his work.

After graduating AFTRS with a Masters in directing, Maziar’s short films went onto screen at Academy Accredited international film festivals and have received numerous awards and nominations across directing and writing.

As a writer, in 2018 he won the Warner Brothers/Blacklist/Veerhuis Pictures screenplay competition for his spec Die Well which was also a Nicholls Fellowship top 50 Semi Finalist. In 2019, another of his original specs, Manichean, also made the Blacklist top ten of Australia list; the script was previously a Nicholls Fellowship semifinalist in 2016.

In 2019 Maziar released his feature film directorial debut, Below (Goodthing Productions), which was adapted by Ian Wilding off his award-winning play. The film, which stars Ryan Corr, was also supported through Seville (Wazabi), Madman, Screenwest, Screen Australia, Screen Victoria, and Melbourne International Film Festival premiere fund. Below premiered at Melbourne International Film festival in August.

Maziar specializes in writing stories that are grounded and has a strong interest in the crime and sci-fi genres. He currently has original screenplays in development with Causeway Films and Warner Brothers Studios; he is also working on a television adaptation with Indian Pacific Pictures.
