'Swift Street' Released on SBS

Congratulations to Nicole Reddy, Briar Grace Smith, and Julie-Anne De Ruvo on the release of Swift Street.

Set in the northern Melbourne, the series follows Elsie who lives in a low-rent home with her father, Robert whose wife left five years earlier. Elsie works at local whitegoods store when she isn’t selling fake IDs to school students for quick cash, and is saving her dollars for a bike stall. But Robert is hardly the model father. He is now a shadow of his once-nefarious street hustler self. He has also accrued a $26,000 debt which local crime boss The Mechanic is now calling in.

Luke Buckmaster from the Guardian writes in his four-star review: Swift Street is framed from the beginning as a story about a father and daughter – though it’s easy to forget that, given the show’s breakneck pacing and sheer sass. It moves, baby, and it’s an absolute blast.

Screenhub’s Anthony Morris writes in his glowing four and a half star review: Set in a world of street hustlers and heavy hitters, Swift Street‘s propulsive storytelling is the blast of fresh air Australian crime drama needs.

Julie-Anne De Ruvo edited four episodes, with Briar Grace-Smith and Nicole Reddy both writing episodes alongside Sam Carroll and the series creator Tig Terera.

Swift Street is a Magpie Pictures production for SBS, with major production investment from Screen Australia in association with SBS. The series was produced by Ivy Mak and executive produced by Lois Randall.

Swift Street premieres on SBS on 24 April with two episodes airing each week at 8.30pm, or you can stream all eight episodes on SBS On Demand.
