Pip Karmel’s career spans the disciplines of film editing, writing and directing.

Most recently, Pip has been the Lead Writer, Co-Creator, Script Producer and an Executive Producer on the six-part drama series Dalliance (Roadshow Rough Diamond /Paramount+).

She has written on all three seasons of Total Control (Blackfella Films/ABC), winning the AWGIE Award for Best Television Series or Mini Series for Ep 3 of Series 1, and nominated for Ep 2 of Series 2. For Ep 5 of Series 3, she was nominated for an AWGIE Award and shortlisted for the 2025 NSW Premier’s Betty Roland Prize for Script Writing.

In 2024, she wrote two episodes for the hit drama The Family Next Door (Beyond Entertainment/Muse Entertainment/ABC), based on Sally Hepworth’s novel of the same name.

She has written an episode of New Gold Mountain (Goalpost Pictures/SBS), which won the 2021 AWGIE Award for Best Limited Series.

Pip was also Associate Producer, Co-Creator and Head Writer on Bad Behaviour (Matchbox Pictures/Stan), a 4x1 hr drama based on the memoir by Rebecca Starford. It was produced by Amanda Higgs and was released in 2023.

Pip was nominated for both an Academy Award and BAFTA for her work as film editor on Shine (1996), directed by Scott Hicks and starring Geoffrey Rush, for which she won an AFI Award.

She went on to write and direct Me Myself I (1999), starring Rachel Griffiths. The film screened at Toronto and Telluride Film Festivals and was nominated for multiple AFI and Film Critics Circle Awards, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Direction.
