Liz Doran is a Sydney-based screenwriter and producer.

Liz developed and was the EP/Writer/Showrunner of My Brilliant Career, an adaptation of Miles Franklin’s novel, produced by Jungle Entertainment for Netflix Australia. 

Recently, she was the Co-Creator and Co-Writer of Episode 1 of the 6-part drama series Dalliance (Roadshow Rough Diamond/Paramount+). She wrote Episode 3 of the upcoming drama series Grown Ups for Netflix UK, created by Samantha Strauss and based on Marian Keyes’ bestselling novel.

Liz was a key creative on the hit series Please Like Me (ABC/Pivot Network), which premiered to critical acclaim, winning the AACTA Award for Best Comedy and nominated for Best Comedy at the International Emmy Awards, Europe’s Rose d’Or Awards, America’s GLAAD Media Awards and Australia’s Logie Awards.

Liz script produced and wrote on all 4 seasons, winning an AWGIE Award for her ‘Portuguese Tart’ script in Season 1, and was nominated for a NSW Premier's Award for her ‘Burrito Bowl’ script in Season 4, along with co-writers Josh Thomas and Thomas Ward.

She was the Co-Creator, Head Writer and an Executive Producer of the drama series Barons (Two Jons/Fremantle Media). The series was nominated for an AACTA Award for Best Mini Series.

In 2020, Liz produced (under her own production banner) the 6 x 10 min short-form Online Series The Tailings (SBS), winning an AACTA Award for Best Short Form Drama.

Liz developed and wrote two episodes of the Stan original series Prosper (Lingo Pictures). She wrote on Series 1 - 5 of Doctor Doctor (Essential Media/Easy Tiger), and Part 1 of the 2-part miniseries Molly (7 Network), based on the life of Molly Meldrum. She was also the Co-Creator, Script Producer and Head Writer on the International Emmy nominated series Ready For This (ABC).  

Other credits include episodes on Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries, Rescue Special Ops, The Secret Life of Us, Carla Cametti PD, McLeod’s Daughters and the Emmy Award-winning, BAFTA-nominated UK drama series Sugar Rush. Liz was also the Story Editor and Writer for Seasons 1 – 3 of Dance Academy, a 26-part teen drama for the ABC.

Liz has worked as a Script Editor on projects across animation, television, and film, including The Square with Producer Louise Smith, Director Nash Edgerton and Co-Writers Joel Edgerton and Matthew Dabner, released in Australia and the US.
