Director
Jonathan Teplitzky is an internationally acclaimed director and writer whose career spans high-end global television and award-winning feature films. Based in London, he works across the UK, Australia, and the US.
Most recently, Jonathan directed the feature film Spit (2025, Tracking Films), a sequel to his cult classic feature Gettin’ Square (2003, Universal Pictures/Working Title). Spit was a 2025 Septimius Award Nominee for Best Oceanian Film. Prior to this, he directed multiple episodes of the Netflix/Peacock series Irreverent, produced by Matchbox Pictures.
Jonathan made his directorial and writing debut in 2000 with Better Than Sex, starring David Wenham and Susie Porter. The film screened internationally at festivals all around the world, including Cannes, and was nominated for eight AFI Awards, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay. He then directed the iconic crime-comedy Gettin’ Square in 2003, starring Sam Worthington. Gettin’ Square was named Best Film by Empire Magazine, won the Audience Prize at the Hawaii International Film Festival and received 14 nominations at the AFI Awards.
He also wrote, directed and co-produced Burning Man (2011), starring Matthew Goode, Bojana Novakovic and Rachel Griffiths. The film was selected to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival and earned Jonathan an AWGIE Award for Original Screenplay. The film received the most nominations for the 2011 FCCA Awards, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Script, and was nominated for 10 AACTA Awards.
Jonathan directed The Railway Man (2013), starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. Based on the true story of Eric Lomax, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to critical acclaim. He followed this with the 2017 historical drama Churchill, starring Brian Cox and John Slattery, which followed Winston Churchill in the 24 hours before D-Day.
Jonathan has also directed extensively for television. His credits include the hit UK series Broadchurch (Season 2), A Discovery of Witches, We Hunt Together, A Series of Unfortunate Events for Netflix, Marcella, Indian Summers, Spirited, and the celebrated Australian drama Rake.
