Joan Sauers is a well-regarded writer and script editor. She started her career as assistant to Lindsay Anderson on In Celebration in London in 1974, before moving to Los Angeles in 1976 where she worked as a script reader for Barry Levinson and Francis Ford Coppola.
In 1981 she moved back to New York where she was casting assistant to Sergio Leone, Tony Scott, Mike Nichols and Milos Forman before forming a production company in 1984 to make documentaries for PBS and the BBC.
Joan is a prolific screenwriter, with her feature The Haunting of Mary Todd to be directed in 2020 by Zak Hilditch for Animal Logic, and The Musician being helmed by Kim Mordaunt for producers Brian Rosen and Su Armstrong.
Joan is also highly sought after as a script editor/producer of both TV and film, having worked on series including The Principal and Rake, and feature films that include The Babadook and 100 Bloody Acres.
Joan is the published author of 14 books and regularly consults for Screen Australia.
