Jessica Hobbs


Jessica Hobbs is one of Australia’s top television drama directors. Her ground-breaking work on Love My Way in 2004 led to the outstanding and hugely popular TV series Spirited and Tangle for Southern Star, followed by Rake and My Place for ABC. She was set-up director for the award-winning TV series for the Matchbox production The Slap (based on the book by Christos Tsiolkas).

Jessica has won Australian Film Institute Awards for Answered by Fire (2006), a Canadian/Australian co-production telemovie set during the violent East Timorese independence referendum of 1999 and for Love My Way (2005). She also directed Curtina telemovie about the life of Australian Prime Minister John Curtin in the 1940’s. Curtin screened in competition at BANFF in 2007.

 In 2012, she directed the AACTA Nominated Mini Series Devil’s Dust for ABC and Fremantle Media, receiving an ADG Award and in 2013 was lead director on the third series of Rake.

Jessica has also directed two episodes of series two of British crime drama, Broadchurch (2014) and has directed a block of River (2015) for Kudos Film and Television and BBC1.

In 2016, Jessica was the sole director for the 4-part miniseries Apple Tree Yard, also for Kudos Film and BBC Television.
