Jessica Hobbs


Jessica Hobbs is one of Australia’s top television drama directors. Her ground-breaking work on Love My Way in 2004 earned her an AFI award for Best Direction In Television and led to the outstanding and hugely popular TV series Spirited and Tangle for Southern Star.

During this time Jess also directed Curtin a telemovie about the life of Australian Prime Minister John Curtin in the 1940’s, which screened in competition at BANFF in 2007; and Answered by Fire, a Canadian/Australian co-production mini-series set during the violent East Timorese independence referendum of 1999, for which Jessica won an AFI award for Best Direction; and episodes of My Place for ABC television.

In 2011 Jessica was set-up director for the award-winning TV series The Slap (based on the book by Christos Tsiolkas) for ABC television, receiving an AACTA Award nomination for Best Direction for her work.

In 2012, she directed the AACTA Nominated Mini Series Devil’s Dust for ABC and Fremantle Media, receiving an ADG Award, and in 2013 was lead director on the third series of Rake for which she received an ADG nomination.

 Jessica has directed episodes of the acclaimed crime drama, Broadchurch and a block of River both for Kudos Film and Television and BBC One.

In 2016, Jessica was the sole director on the four-part miniseries Apple Tree Yard, also for Kudos Film and Television. She recently completed directing all six episodes on the first season of The Split for Sister Pictures and AMC and worked on the third season of The Crown for Left Bank Pictures and Netflix.
