With a strong sense of genre and a natural ability for storytelling, James has been writing elevated-genre scripts which have attracted local and international attention for the past several years. His conceptual sci-fi script Solitary progressed to the Quarterfinals Round of the 2011 Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, the Fellowship run by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. It has been optioned by Porchlight Films. James had another script selected for the Nicholl Fellowship, sci-fi/action feature Harvester, which went through to the Semifinals in 2012.
James’ short film Shift (2013), which he wrote, directed and produced, was invited to screen at a number of film festivals worldwide including Cinequest, Boston Science Fiction Film Festival and Irvine International Film Festival. A feature version of the short is currently in development, along with the period horror Hamelin and the sci-fi/thrillers Coercion and Code.
