Hugh Miller is an award-winning cinematographer, working across feature documentary, documentary series, features and television.

His many, critically acclaimed documentary credits include The Kids (dir. Eddie Martin / Resolution Media, 2021), Under The Volcano (dir. Gracie Otto / Rush Films, 2021), 2040 (dir. Damon Gameau / GoodThing Productions and Regan Pictures, 2019), and Ghosthunter (dir. Ben Lawrence / Ghosthunter One and Madman Entertainment, 2018), which screened at multiple festivals around the world, receiving an AWGIE Award for Best Writing for a Documentary Feature, an AACTA Award nomination for Best Feature-Length Documentary, the Sydney Film Festival Best Australian Documentary Award in 2018; in addition to earning Hugh a 2018 AACTA Award for Best Cinematography in a Documentary. In 2015 he was the cinematographer on Sherpa (dir. Jennifer Peedom / Arrow Media and Felix Media), which won Best Feature Length Documentary at the 2015 AACTA Awards, Best Documentary at the 2017 Australian Film Critics Association Awards; and earned Hugh a 2015 AACTA Award nomination for Best Cinematography in a Documentary, and a 2017 Australian Film Critics Association Award nomination for Best Cinematography. He previously partnered with Jennifer Peedom in 2008 on Miracle on Everest (Essential Media and National Geographic), earning him the 2009 Australian Cinematographers Society Award of Distinction for Dramatised Documentaries.

With a focus on more scripted, narrative dramas, in 2020 Hugh worked on writer/director JJ Winlove’s debut feature film, June Again, starring Noni Hazlehurst and Claudia Karvan. In 2019, he partnered with writer/director Ben Lawrence again for Hearts and Bones (Night Kitchen Productions), a critically lauded feature which premiered locally at the 2019 Sydney Film Festival, where it played in Official Competition, and had its international premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, where the screenings were followed by standing ovations. In 2022, Hugh served as the cinematographer on Fremantle and ABC’s television series Significant Others (dir. Tony Krawitz).

Most recently, he shot the first block of Prosper for Lingo Pictures, Lionsgate and Stan. The megachurch drama series stars Richard Roxburgh & Rebecca Gibney.
