‘Picnic at Hanging Rock: The Musical’ Announces Off-Broadway World Premiere

A musical adaptation of Joan Lindsay’s novel Picnic at Hanging Rock is premiering off-Broadway at the Greenwich House Theatre (27 Barrow Street, New York) in December 2025. Music & Arrangements by Cameron’s client Greta Gertler Gold and Book and Lyrics by Hilary Bell.

First brought to global recognition through Peter Weir's iconic film, this production reimagines the story of a group of teenage schoolgirls who go on a picnic to Hanging Rock through a female lens. Gold told Variety “Peter Weir’s stunning film grabbed my imagination as a young person and has always haunted me…I’ve always been drawn to darker stories in musicals. It is an exciting challenge to retell this nuanced, female-centered and unresolved tale.” Varity article here.
