Dave Stevens grew up in Geelong with his adopted parents and from a very young age he knew that music would be a big part of his life. He began playing bass at the age of 12 and by 14 he had formed his first band. Apart from playing and recording music for nearly 40 years, he worked in various record and book stores. In the 90s he started the online power pop distribution company Pure Pop Records which in 2005 became a bricks and mortar store in St Kilda. Pure Pop became an institution in the Australian music scene as it developed from purely a record store to a record store with a licenced bar and fully functional live music venue attracting musicians from all over Australia and many touring international artists.
At the age of 23, Dave sought to find his birth mother and to his amazement discovered that his father was the iconic frontman of AC/DC, Bon Scott. Unfortunately Bon passed away a decade earlier so the two were never able to meet.
After years of prodding from friends and bandmates, Dave abandoned the bass guitar and took to the microphone, fronting the show If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It). The show features AC/DC songs from the classic Bon Scott era interspersed with anecdotes from Dave about his life experiences. He has also appeared as guest vocalist at special events such as Bon Scott’s birthday celebrations in 2016 and 2017, with the shows Bon But Not Forgotten and Whole Lotta Rosie and in February 2018 will be a special guest at Bonfest in Fremantle.
Echo/Bonnier Publishing will release in mid 2018, Dave’s memoir of growing up with a loving adopted family, playing in bands (some good and some pretty bad), finding his birth mother, discovering the identity of his father and how all of this has influenced him through the years.
