Chris Kohn

Stage Director

Chris is an awarded stage director and deviser.

He has been Artistic Director of Stuck Pigs Squealing Theatre since its founding in 2000, directing several shows including The Black Swan of Trespass, The Eisteddfod and Lally Katz and the Terrible Mysteries of the Volcano. He was Artistic Director of Arena Theatre Company (2008-12) and La Boite Theatre Company (2014), and From 2012-14 he was Australia Council’s Theatre Diversity Associate in Queensland.

Directing credits include Moth and Goodbye Vaudeville Charlie Mudd at Malthouse Theatre, Back to the Dojo and Antigone at Belvoir, Waikiki Hip at Sydney Theatre Company, The Children’s Bach at Chambermade Opera, and Diatribe at Melbourne Workers Theatre. He has been nominated for a Helpmann Award for Best Direction of an Opera and he has received Green Room Awards and nominations for his direction and writing and a New York International Fringe Festival Award. Chris has been a recipient of the George Fairfax Memorial Award, the Malcolm Robertson Prize, Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant, and a Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship. He has been a resident artist at Les Couvent des Recollets in Paris and a Creative Fellow at the State Library of Victoria.

He is currently a PhD candidate at the Victorian College of the Arts, with a research interest in intellectual disability and the ethics of collaborative creation. Chris lives in Geelong, Victoria with his wife and three boys.
