Catherine is an accredited practicing dietitian and nutritionist who is trusted as the ‘voice of reason’ in a world full of food fads, extreme diets and weird super foods. Think of Keto, Paleo, Raw, Vegan, Gluten-free and Quit-Sugar and you’ll see how the message of moderation is soon lost!
She is an award-winning author of 11 non-fiction titles on nutrition and diet. Her classic Nutrition for Life – a compilation of over 40 lively and short topical articles from cholesterol to carbs – was first published in 1986 with six editions released over the next 20 years. The 20th anniversary edition was revised and updated in 2006 (Hardie Grant). Over its lifetime, it has become a classic and educated a whole generation on nutrition.

She is the winner of the Bruce Chandler Book Prize (2014), the Food Media Club Best Nutrition Writing (2001, 2003 and 2004), Best writing for Dairy Nutrition (2003) and the Dietitians Association of Australia Award for Innovation in Communication (2000).
Catherine holds a Bachelor of Science degree (majoring in biochemistry and physiology) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics, both from the University of Sydney.
She was an Honorary Governor of Sydney University’s Nutrition Research Foundation from 1993 to 2015. In 2005 Catherine was made a life member of Nutrition Australia for services to community education.
Catherine lives in Sydney with her husband. Her two children are now grown up - but call for food advice all the time.
