Adam Kamien is a writer and director working across documentary, film and television. Most recently, Adam co-wrote and directed Surviving Malka Leifer, a documentary feature for In Films and Village Roadshow Films. Commissioned by Stan and backed by Screen Australia, Screen NSW and VicScreen, the film examines the long and harrowing pursuit of justice in one of Australia’s most high-profile abuse cases. It is an official selection of the Melbourne International Film Festival, 2025.
Prior to this, Adam was the co-writer and co-director of The Speedway Murders, a hybrid feature documentary investigating a notorious 1978 cold case in Indianapolis, which was nominated for 4 AACTA awards. The film received production investment from Screen Australia, the South Australian Film Corporation and the Adelaide Film Festival and was released in North America by Vertical Entertainment before being acquired by Hulu, where it quickly became one of the platform’s top ten most-watched films. It later premiered on Netflix in Australia, also charting in the national top ten.
Adam has a background in journalism and holds a Bachelor of Business/Public Relations from Swinburne University of Technology as well as a certificate in Public Relations and Business Writing from RMIT. Adam is currently developing a slate of new documentary and narrative projects for film and television, including a project with Matchbox Pictures and the ABC.
